As a school counselor, I work to maintain the standards and guidelines of this model in order to create and establish a comprehensive school counseling program. Below are a few bullet points which touch on the main ideas behind the model.
The model is based on 4 main quadrants:
TheFoundation focuses on establishing beliefs and a mission statement as well as what every student will know and be able to do as a result of the school counseling program.
The Delivery System describes the activities, interactions and methods necessary to deliver the program.
The Management System incorporates organizational processes and tools to ensure the program is organized, concrete, clearly delineated and reflective of the school’s needs.
Accountability refers to the need for school counselors to collect and use data that link the program to student achievement
The model incorporates 4 major themes:
Leadership: Serve as leaders in the school
Advocacy: Advocate for the success of each and every student and working to eliminate achievement gaps
Collaboration & Teaming: Working with all stakeholders in order to provide the best learning environment for students
Systemic Change: Identifying and eliminating system-wide barriers that may hinder success
