I will be teaching lessons on Character Development to kindergarten one time a week. The lessons from the book “Jellybean Jamboree” will bring different life-skill topics to light for young children. The topics are presented in 6 units and young children associate these topics with their jellybean counterparts. Each unit contains short, to the point lessons followed by fun activities.
Angry Arlene, The Grumpy Red Jellybean: teaches students to identify their anger points and handle anger in an acceptable way Emotional Eugene, The Feeling Blue Jellybean: explore the emotions of happiness, sadness, hurt, and everyday feelings Decision-Making Dean, The Problem Solving Orange Jelly Bean: looks into the pros and cons of problem solving and the consequences associated with each Me, Maureen, The Self-Knowing Lavender Jellybean: provides students with the opportunity to examine strengths and develop confidence and positive self-esteem Friendly Francine, The Neighborly Pink Jellybean: helps students realize what it takes to be a good friend Ornery Ordean, The Misbehaving Green Jellybean: explains why misbehaviors such as cheating, lying, stealing, and interrupting make children lose friends
Each Week, students will also learn sign language associated with the feeling and color of each jellybean, as well as basic manners such as please, thank you, and sorry.
